Psychology Education

Psychology education in Portugal comprises 5 years of training (master level, 300 ECTS). This is a popular course offered by many public and private institutions both at bachelor (3 years) and master levels (2 years). Doctoral level courses are also offered by a smaller number of institutions in different basic and applied areas. Bachelor level entrance requirements include secondary school grades and entrance examinations and are coordinated nationally for public institutions by the ministry of higher education. For public institutions tuitions fees at this level were about 900 € /year in 2010. Master level entrance requirements are coordinated at institutional level. Master courses and courses from private institutions present a large variation in tuition fees. Employment opportunities related to psychological practice require 5 years of education plus 1 year of supervised practice. Professional practice is regulated by the Ordem dos Psicólogos (Order of Psychologists).
