Psychology Education
There are 10 universities providing psychology education
in Bulgaria – 8 public and 2 private. Some of the psychology departments
are accredited by the National Accredited Commission and some are in the
process of receiving such accreditation otherwise they will loose their
right to teach. The Bulgarian Psychology Association is not a part of
the accreditation body.
Admission requirements vary between universities. In general applicants
have to complete secondary education and pass entry exams. In the public
universities the tuition fee is about 200 leva ($150) per semester. In
the private universities it is about 1000 leva ($750) per semester.
The curriculum of bachelor degrees is common regardless of the university,
although the curriculum of master degrees varies between universities.
Some concentrate more on educational psychology, others on organizational
or clinical psychology etc.
Lecturers are required to complete habilitation. Without habilitation
one can work as an assistant and lead workshops and seminars.
Half of psychology graduates find jobs as clinical psychologists, educational psychologists, human resources managers, teachers or continue their education to a doctoral level and pursue an academic carrier. The other half go on to work in business, secretaries etc. or continue their education on different master programs.
